Whale Watching Walk @ North Head

Bring your binoculars and let’s go whale watching at North Head! Now is a good time to enjoy the winter whale watching season as thousands of humpback whales move up the east coast to warmer waters.

North Head has two new lookouts and plenty of walking paths and trails which are accessible from the paid parking lot at North Head or the free parking behind the Bella Vista Café (600 m walk to the lookout area).

We will also visit one of the 3 historic cemeteries, established in 1881 for victims of influenza, smallpox, plague and other epidemics. This area has unspoiled views of Sydney Harbour.

Car access: Park in the free carpark behind the Bella Vista Café (203/33 North Head Scenic Drive). The parking lot has designated disability car spots. There are public toilets as well.

Public transport: Take a bus or ferry to Manly. Take the North Fort bus 161 from Stand C at Manly Wharf (Manly to North Head Loop Service) Bus schedule here. Alight at stop closest to Bella Vista Café.

Date and time: 1-3 pm, Saturday 27 July

What to bring: Binoculars, hat, water. Umbrella and rain jacket if weather unpredictable

Place: Meet on the lawn in front of the Bella Vista Café. Takeaway coffee can be purchased from the cafe.

Walk together 600 m to the lookout area. Flat walk. After whale watching, return to the Café, then take a short walk to the cemetery and back.

North Fort is a national park, so no dogs or other pets are allowed.
