Zoom Culture Series: New Year (Oshogatsu) Ikebana

Oshogatsu Ikebana with Hiroko Prado

Just to inspire you to try your hand at Japanese-style flower arrangement for the New Year, we are pleased to welcome Hiroko Prado, a teacher in the Sogetsu style of ikebana, to give an online demonstration. Hiroko will give a brief history of ikebana, demonstrate one of the basic styles, and show how Australian seasonal flowers can be used in place of the traditional oshogatsu ikebana.

About Hiroko Prado

Ikebana has been Hiroko's lifelong passion. After she gained her first teaching certificate in Tokyo in 1999, she started teaching actively in Hong Kong, and has been teaching ever since. Hiroko has taught ikebana at the YWCA in Hong Kong; Christian Dior, Mercedes Benz and Singapore National Parks in Singapore. In Sydney she has performed live demonstrations at the Matsuri in Parramatta, the Royal Botanic Garden and the Japanese Consulate-General, as well as leading numerous workshops across Sydney. 

She wishes to share her extensive experience and knowledge of Ikebana in Sydney and to the world as well as cultivating friendship through Ikebana!

Currently Hiroko-san holds the title Sogetsu School First Grade Riji, the highest teaching title in the Sogetsu School. She is a member of the Sogetsu Teachers Association Japan; a Director of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana Sydney/NSW and President of Ikebana International Sydney Chapter #36 Inc..

Sign up as usual using the online form. Your registration will be confirmed and the day or so before the event a Zoom link will be sent out to registered participants.

The event is suitable for all ages and it is free to attend.

プラド　浩子　経歴

津田塾大学卒業後、当時勤務していた共同通信社の華道部で師範まで取得。香港にて当時編集／ライターをしていた日本語情報誌コンシェルジュを妊娠をきっかけに退社し、YWCAに生け花クラスを開設。シンガポール移住後は、草月流いけばなシンガポール支部を創設した故カズエキム先生に師事。キム先生晩年には毎年行われるシャングリラホテルでの天皇誕生日パーティーの要人迎え花など大作の数々をアシスト。その他、クリスチャンディオールやメルセデスベンツなどハイブランドのVIP顧客のレッスンを企画・担当。シンガポール政府主催のホートパークでのレッスンを企画・担当。在シンガポール日本大使公邸や、マンダリンオーチャードホテルでのいけばなインターナショナルシンガポール支部主催のデモンストレーションも行う。
