We are excited to welcome member Peter Gibson for a "fireside chat" about his two months in Japan working at the Olympics and Paralympics.
Peter has just returned from Tokyo, where as Executive Advisor to the Australian Olympic Committee, the Seven Network and Paralympics Australia, he worked to ensure that Australia’s largest-ever Olympic and Paralympic teams had a great experience during the Tokyo 2020 Games. With his Japanese language and deep knowledge of Japan and sport, no doubt he made a valuable contribution to our two most successful Games ever, both events that brightened and inspired us during lockdown in Australia.
In this informal chat, Peter will give us a unique "behind the scenes" glimpse of both Games, which were closed to most people including the Japanese hosts.
Peter has worked in and around sport and Japan for around 30 years. He was a professional tennis player in Japan, and successfully rebuilt a major tennis club in Sydney. Subsequently he developed the sports tourism business to Japan, and worked at the intersection of sport and business for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, prior to his roles at the AOC and Paralympics Australia. After the 2011 East Japan earthquake and tsunami disaster he completed a 309km Charity Walk through Fukushima. His Linkedin profile is here and recently we profiled his Japan story here.
This Zoom event is free to attend. Sign up here and a Zoom link will be sent to you the day before the event.
